We bought these to replace our old traditional round rope lanterns. Old lanterns give off a warm light (traditional for the old style - almost yellow light) and we wanted to reproduce that look. This item can work, but there are nuances: 1) judging by the description, it is not a round tube, but a flat tape. The light comes from halfway down the line, so there is an "up" and a "down" as opposed to round rope. I think it's fully controllable, but I understand you need to set it up to emit the light the way you want it. 2) It is referred to as "warm white". It's a common industry term for white and means a soft glow compared to, say, "cool white" which is sharper and brighter. However, the light from it is actually a colder white. Another reviewer mentioned this and I should have paid more attention. It emits a bright bluish light. So for our application (indoor wall lighting) this really played with the colors of the wall and didn't work. So if you need a bright light, maybe more autonomous, then this works great. If you're looking for a traditional warm light, it's probably too bright. (I had to send it back for that reason.)
