This rug size is ideal when you are working with small pieces of fabric and have limited space to iron those pieces. These pads are as thick as advertised and will not roll or get onto the fabrics you use the pad on. I wish I had known about these pads 5 years ago when I started quilting. At least one warning. If you are using it on a card table or any surface other than a full ironing board, I recommend placing a piece of wood shaped into a mini ironing board under the mat as the heat from the iron is absorbed by the mat. as it should be but if you have a cutting mat underneath it will start to flex unless you put a heatsink material under the wool mat.
