Water leaks in any home can be completely devastating and require a great deal of time, energy and money to fix. In a typical home with many different potential leaks, it's really nice to have a way to track leaks. In the past I've bought standalone units that only beep loudly when they detect water. That's fine, but they're of limited use in a big house and generally useless when you're away from home. These devices simply connect to your home WiFi and send both an email and a text message when a leak is detected. . You don't need to pay a subscription or current plan for email and text message notifications. That's big. I bought a 5 pack. I put two of these next to my sump pumps, one next to the water heater, one next to the washing machine and one next to the freezer. It's easy to set them up. They connect easily to Wi-Fi and work very well. I did a manual test (without water) and the warning went away immediately. I also tried the water test and it felt the water just like it should. One of them felt water a few weeks later when my drain pump failed, which was great. Negative points: 1) The beep is almost useless. It really isn't necessary as long as you have a phone, but why put it there if you can't hear it? I understand it can't be very loud due to the size and battery drain of the device, but it seems a bit misleading when it's advertised as a loud alarm. 2) The battery should be easier to replace. The good news is that the battery should last a year, plus you can monitor the battery level in the app and it should alert you when the battery is low. However, changing the battery requires unscrewing the access door to access it. Seems like this could be made easier. 3) They are available in single pack, 3 pack and 5 pack, but there is no discount for a 5 pack. For $50 each, they might offer a discount for purchasing larger sets.
