Don't know, toothpaste doesn't do anything except make brushing a little less traumatic for the kitten. To be honest, I don't care how much my cat hates brushing his teeth. This brought a huge improvement. I wrapped him in a towel and brushed his molars for 20 seconds before releasing him. It was a bloody mess the first few times. His gums were in such bad shape. By the 5th brushing (I wait about 3 days between brushing) his gums were no longer bleeding from brushing. His breathing improved greatly. Sometimes when I'm sleeping he curls up on my shoulder and thinks I'd like a face bath. I assure you I don't like it and it usually leaves a horrible smell. Now he still tells me to take a bath in the middle of the night, but at least I don't feel the need to get up in the middle of the night and wash. paste and play with it and the brush.
