I was a bit hesitant to buy an FM transmitter for my car. I've heard they aren't working as advertised and that I'll be hearing a lot of hissing in my music. But when I bought a used car and the FM station was the only way to listen to my iPod, I had to get one. The Griffin Roadtrip Hands-Free was the only practical option when it came to FM transmitters. It plays and charges the iPod as intended, and the ability to make phone calls through the car radio and microphone is a real treat. The only design flaw I can think of right now is that the iPod doesn't pause when there's an incoming call, instead the music turns off. I have songs on my iPod because I love music and don't want to be without it when I'm on the phone for a long time. You can still pause your iPod manually, but it requires an extra step. In terms of performance, I've heard that the sound quality can vary greatly depending on the position of the car antenna. Mine is built into the rear window and I would say the sound quality is pretty good. If I listen carefully or during the pauses between songs, I usually hear a bit of hissing. The biggest factor affecting sound quality is competing radio stations. I've found a station that offers a good quality route for my commute home, but when I deviate from that route I usually have to use Roadtrip's built-in station finder. It usually works well when selecting clear channels, but sometimes it only takes a few minutes. In terms of physical layout, the buttons are easy to find and press, and the screen backlight isn't too bright for night driving. I love that I can rotate the iPod dock and move my neck. He's holding the position well even though I've only had him for about two months. If you are looking for a good FM transmitter, I strongly recommend that you buy this one. It's not perfect, but the best out there in my opinion.
