Review on Usongshine Precision Sliding Engraving Machine by James Dominick

Clean it up and assemble it before you judge!

Right out of the box I wasn't impressed. He was tough, harsh and inconsistent. But I watched a video on how to disassemble, clean and lube the bottom bracket. Took me a good hour and after I was done the graininess was gone BUT there was still a spot on the track where the carriage got stuck about 70% of the time. It would hold tight enough that I could hold the track vertical and the weight of the carriage wouldn't be enough to get it moving again. I wanted to leave it as I plan to use it for a 3D printer and I knew the stepper motor would have more than enough torque to overcome this type of sticking. But I wanted to give it three stars because the movement was really unsatisfying and I felt I did my part to keep it clean and lubricated. Section of an aluminum profile with a T-slot. I just wanted to turn it into a better toy while waiting for other printer parts to arrive. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that the sticky stain was completely gone. As you can see in the video, it now slides smoothly under its own weight at a fairly slight angle. It seems that maybe the rail has a slight bend that needs to be straightened? I don't think I understand 100% what is going on here. I didn't over tighten it at all, just enough to secure it firmly to the aluminum with no wobble. I can't imagine that 15mm aluminum profile pulling a steel rail, but then again, I can't think of anything that might matter. It mounts to something flat in every real world use case (I've since read that this type of rail is for full support, as opposed to a round rail that can bridge gaps). Therefore I give five stars. I had to work hard to clean and oil it but for this price the result is superb. Just clean it and install it before you decide it sucks!

Pros
  • Easy to disassemble and install
Cons
  • So far so good
