Review on BTECH UV 25X4 Tri Band Mobile Radio by Rashan Jimenez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Simple or mobile, this is the one!

This little radio is a real gem. I'm using a cheap power supply I bought from Revain to power up to 13.6VDC. This is my base station, although I built an AC to cigarette lighter power converter for home use. I wanted a portable ham radio but didn't want to run the battery cable into the cabin (I'm not that committed!). With a cheap Revain power adapter and a cigarette lighter adapter that I put in a small plastic tool box, this guy is perfect for my needs. I can use it at home and get a very good signal and when I want to be mobile I just unplug it and my car can easily handle a 7A load. Is this real hardcore amateur radio? no Can it serve a great purpose in your car? Yes. You can also use it as a 20+W base station. Absolutely. I was amazed at how good the transmission and reception performance is. I warn you that the "cigarette lighter" will get hot and will need to be adjusted in your home power supply. I plan to find a wired outlet and use it instead of a "cigarette lighter" to connect to my home power base. I can hit repeaters from miles away with this little gem, I like the 220 series too. There isn't much activity there, but I plan to change that and maybe even host my own 220 network. There's no reason we should drop groups just because the big two aren't spending money on having theirs radios are compatible. is it chinese Yes. Could this infringe on the intellectual property of other radio companies? I don't know, it's more than my salary. Can it be a good base station and mobile station? Absolutely. Power consumption is low enough to be supported by the car's "lighter" shifting system. Overall I like the sound of this radio and the low price.
