Was going to deduct a star due to initial assembly difficulties and because the instructions seemed a bit incomplete, but after fiddling around and reading a good review from another user, I came to and think so I fully understand the advantages and benefits of this design. First, you get a pair of broken trekking poles with a perfect modular design that makes it easy to carry a small item instead of the crazy oversized packaging for full-size poles. I love it. It was confusing that it was made up of multiple sections connected with a wire and of course they kept falling off and I couldn't figure out how to make it fully stretched. I eventually found that pulling out the fourth section fixes the wire to finish - you then simply adjust the length of the top section for a final height adjustment. And if you want to disassemble it, just press the lock button and the cable will sag and you can fold and pack the parts. I currently use it as braces so I wish it had a cane option but I can't get it out because of that. It's pretty cool and I think a pair of folding poles will do for hiking.
