Waited a few months to write this after purchase. Bought this to replace a Series 7 after the connection between the base and the shaver broke after about eight years. The big question for most buyers is Series 9 or 7. Please note that there are two "runs" of the 9. The 90xx is the original design and had some head-scratching issues. 92XX is a newer design. There are still a lot of 90xx to buy, especially in discounters. I went with the new design even though it cost a few dollars more. Here are my observations with both. Whitebeard: 9 wins unconditionally. The 9 has an extra trimmer in the center of the head designed for stubborn gray hairs that are sticking out from under the electric razor. If you look at the photos you can see that 7 has one center cutter and 9 has two cutters, each with a different design. Trimmer: It depends. The 7 has a hair clipper that looks like a small barber clipper that pops out on the side of the device. The 9 has a small knife that slides over the main blade and looks like a "personal groomer". The 7 is probably better on sideburns, but the 9 is better on everything else (especially "self-grooming" if you get me. Speed: something like a 9. Speed is listed as an advantage, but I found it to be only slightly faster .. Sound: 9 is definitely quieter but far from silent Cleaning: First buy a cleaning base with these This is the system only by hand However the base of 9 is bigger it is too a gloss black so looks cool but the dust is more visible.9 dries with a fan, not a heater, which means it supposedly dries faster, but it also means you'll smell alcohol in the cleaning solution.There I only shave once a day, I liked the base 7 better. Indicator: 7 wins. Only the "to a drop" symbol indicates clean but don't know how dirty. Battery: Undecided. Never had a problem with it. This is another Gr and to have a base. Lithium batteries like to stay fully charged. The base guarantees it. Expected battery life is 3-5 years. My 7 still works after 8 (kept it as a travel razor). Bottom line: if you're of an age where your beard has gray hairs, spend the extra cash on a 9. If you really hate the smell of alcohol in the morning, get a 7. Otherwise, it becomes a matter of aesthetics. 7 gives you at least 90% of the performance of 9, but for a lot less money.
