Review on πŸ”₯ Advanced BLACK+DECKER D3030 Allure Professional Steam Iron: Unmatched Efficiency in Gray/Blue Design by Scott King

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Gets very hot (good) but occasionally spits out (bad)

My 15 year old Rowenta still works but the sole is quite worn. After neglecting to clean it, I found that the coating was actually peeling off the sole. And I was a very bad iron owner not draining the reservoir and using hard tap water (eek) and all kinds of limescale build up. That's not how you use an iron. So, time for a new one. I thought about buying another Rowenta but honestly didn't want to spend more than $45 and good Rowenta irons cost almost double that. I checked the reviews. I came across reviews of this Black + Decker iron and was intrigued. I don't need anything digital, I just need good heat, great vapor, ability to remove limescale, easy addition of water. It met all the criteria. I was concerned about the negative feedback on how difficult it is to see the dial to select the temperature or the amount of water in the tank. Personally, I haven't had any problems like this since I bought the iron. I hold the iron and the light comes through the window and I can see how much water is in the tank. And I had no trouble dialing or seeing exactly what number I had. I keep the iron set to my most commonly used temperature, which is 4 (cotton). Now, as for the complaint about the lack of an "off" function on the iron, many irons are made even if I'm over 15 years old. Roventa. I use an extension cord that has its own power switch so I can turn it on and off without unplugging the iron. I've been doing this with my Rowenta iron for years. Of course, the iron also has an automatic switch-off function that stops heating the iron after 8 minutes when the iron is standing upright and after 30 seconds when the iron is standing on the soleplate. As for the vapor, it's pretty good! My old Rowenta has a stronger steam function but this iron is half the price and certainly does the job and the steam function is good. I mainly use the iron to iron clothes. In fact, I try to avoid ironing as much as possible (hey, I'm only human). The weight of the Black+Decker D3030 is not heavy at all. It's not a "lightweight" iron, but my old Rowenta is heavier. Black+Decker is easy to use. It's going to be super hot. Heat up time isn't fast but I'd say it's about average - maybe 4 to 4.5 minutes to get to the level required for cotton. High quality stainless steel sole. Emptying the tank is actually very easy and fast! This prompts me to pour the water into the measuring cup I keep next to the iron right after ironing. And that's the trick to controlling calcium build-up. Now I also use distilled water to avoid limescale build up as the water in my area is hard. But you still need to unload the iron for the iron to work well. So far so good on this hardware. I will update this review if I encounter any issues. UPDATE 3/24/16: I'm currently downgrading my rating from 4 to 3. Why? Look at the photo of the brown pants I just uploaded. See those 2 little brown spots? This came from my iron this morning after I pressed the "steam boost" button. I use distilled water in my new iron AND I drain the iron after each use AND let the iron warm up. This is possibly the third time I've used my iron since I bought it. I cleaned the iron when I first got it by filling it with water, letting the iron get very hot, ironing a few times and using a steam boost, and finally emptying the water tank completely. I was hoping to avoid exactly this color problem. I was stunned when I ironed these pants this morning and literally saw these 2 stains formed from the release of steam. gahhhh The wet stain around it is from a Shout Wipe & Go rag to try and remove the stains. I also use a brand new basic ironing pad/pad so that's not a problem. I am annoyed.
