Review on πŸ”Š SVS Prime Satellite Speakers: Elevate Your Audio Experience with Premium Black Ash Pair by Bob Maldonado

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The perfect desktop speakers with the right setup!

I was looking for small form factor desktop speakers and they suited me in terms of size, build quality and features. They are designed for use with a subwoofer. I think a lot of the bad reviews come from people trying to use them themselves. I used the Def Tech 800 before I got the Primes. I liked them for what they are. Only not suitable for close range. Passive radiators from the 800s sound significantly better at close range. My research led me to svs prime sat, polk s10 (I have s15s in my home theater setup and love them) and q 3010i acoustics. Premier asserts itself unconditionally with a subwoofer. More clarity, precision and impact. They also seem to play different genres with ease. I couldn't find any weakness in any particular genre at all. I have them on 9" stands, I play on my computer through an SMSL m300 mkii DAC connected to a minidsp hd to crossover (100Hz sounds better to me) between Prime Sat and a Def Tech Supercube 2000 to control. The minidsp hd is then connected to Amp Allovolt + D. I don't think I can ask for more. To really shine, these speakers need the help of other components, such as B. a good DAC and amplifier. Minidsp hd also made a big difference. You don't want those speakers trying to reproduce the full range. it's definitely distorted. If you already have solid hardware and just need great speakers for one piece of the puzzle, that's no problem. If you intend to use these desktop speakers, you should be prepared to shell out a ton of money for some quality components to get the most out of them. Either way, you won't regret it. Edit: I recently heard a Dali Spektor 1 and PSB P3 speaker alongside these main satellites. I still think top notch satellites are great speakers. If you use them as a desktop solution and in your favorite spot, they're pretty hard to beat. The picture is dead in the middle where the vocals appear to be coming straight out of the monitor. But compared to Dali and PSB, it has a much narrower soundstage. Dali actually recommends that you don't shift them, as they are designed for wide spread. And they don't lie. Wherever I am in the room, they sound the same. They're also more tolerant of bad pick-ups than high-end satellites. The PSB also has a wide soundstage, but not as wide as the Dali. Tonality is where PSB shines. I would say a little bit better than Dali's. Medium bass and high mids sound fantastic with PSB. It's definitely the star of the show for these speakers. They can be a little noticeable from time to time, but not tiresome. In fact, the best satellites are louder than these. At the moment these two speakers outperform premium satellites for me because I like the wide Dali soundstage and PSB tone. Ultimately, I will choose one of these sets as my desktop speakers. But I'm keeping my 5 star rating for the best places because they're good at what they do (as long as you're in your sweet zone). Also, the main satellites are a bit smaller if you're having trouble with the desktop. Another good use would be Atmos speakers if the main treble is too expensive for your budget as the satellites are very directional.
