Review on Audio Technica AT LP7 Manual Belt Drive Turntable by Michael Vargas

Fantastic value and bang for your buck

So this system is actually a "downgrade" for me as my last player had an MC cartridge which cost more than this player and this one Pickup taken together. However, I am very impressed with this system. The turntable itself is of high quality and I'd say it's at the 'knee of the curve' among turntables. Easy to set up and play smoothly, that's great quality. The included MM pickup isn't bad at all, another great value with excellent channel separation; However, if you are a music lover, it will sound a bit "thin" to your ears. The built in phono stage is sufficient, that's all, so I definitely recommend running the signal through a dedicated amplifier of your choice/budget to improve the sound quality. The cables are fine too, but again, an upgrade would help a bit. Since the price of the kit is much lower, it's a bargain in my opinion. You can always upgrade the pickup later, but this system is great for people who don't want to spend an arm and a leg listening to their record collection and still want a very nice, satisfying sound. Huge bang on the buck, 5 stars.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine
