Description of Audio Technica AT LP7 Manual Belt Drive Turntable

Fully manual, Belt-drive operation with two speeds: 33-1/3 and 45 RPM. Motor features a speed-sensor system to maintain accurate platter rotation speed. VM520EB Dual Moving Magnet Cartridge provides outstanding channel separation and extended frequency response, and allows for easy replacement with any VM stylus. J-shaped tone arm features a metallic gimbal Suspension system and precision bearings for excellent tracking. Built-in switchable phono pre-amplifier for connection to components with or without a dedicated phono input with selectable modes for moving magnet or moving coil cartridges. Chassis constructed of 40 mm-thick MDF (medium density fiberboard), an excellent anti-vibration damping material that limits low-frequency acoustical feedback. Anti-resonance platter is made of 20mm thick polyoxymethylene driven by a sensor-monitored motor that ensures a continuously accurate platter rotation speed.

Top equipment at a bargain price.

Everything about this turntable is top notch in terms of design and materials used in its price range. Best tonearm and gimbal from Audio Technica, 40mm thick MDF base and 4lbs POM disc, total weight over 18lbs, belt drive, touch control motor, all electronics mounted in their own case under the table for better isolation. and maintainability. The ability to easily upgrade cartridges and use MM and MC cartridges with one switch. This table sounds fantastic right from the start. Every time I…

Excellent turntable

The sound of this player is incredible. I used AT-LP60X. Doesn't matter. Also, some albums are skipped on the ATLP60X but not on the AT-LP7. You can tell that this is a high-quality, precise instrument. The needle is great. Just remember that this is a fully manual player. I'm so glad I got it before it sold out. They arrived and sold out in just over a week due to high demand. My system looks like this: AT-LP7 turntable, Onkyo NR818 receiver, DJ ART II preamp, Polk LSIM7 bookshelf speakers…

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Something different

Completely manual control. Amazing sound quality.

Excellent manual (old school) turntable. Takes me back to the 70's. Very high quality components. Update: Big crap! The phono stage on the turntable began to fail after 30 days. I sent the unit in for repair and it came back with the same defect. The service department was generally unhelpful and didn't take pride in looking after a 'top notch' product. Unfortunately! Update: After 3 months of endless frustration, I finally figured out the problem. My amp had a massive toroidal transformer and…

Fantastic value and bang for your buck

So this system is actually a "downgrade" for me as my last player had an MC cartridge which cost more than this player and this one Pickup taken together. However, I am very impressed with this system. The turntable itself is of high quality and I'd say it's at the 'knee of the curve' among turntables. Easy to set up and play smoothly, that's great quality. The included MM pickup isn't bad at all, another great value with excellent channel separation; However, if you are a music lover, it will…

Great turntable, especially for the price.

I *like* this player! I have had premium Sony and Technics direct drive CTs made in Japan for 40 years. I wanted to try something different. I've of course read about all sorts of problems with Hanpin's decks. This one doesn't have them. Speed is dead. In fact, I've measured up to 0.05% for wow and flutter. The Sony DD I just replaced showed 0.02%. LP7 is no fool. ;-) Tone arm bearings have no play, check. The disc is perfectly round, balanced and rotates without any hesitation or vertical…

  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • The list is getting long.

Loose arm bearings ruin an otherwise excellent table.

In general, they could succeed with this table. Looks great and feels good. A darkened table with everything you need to listen to music. Large delrin bowl. Stable and perfect speed. Unfortunately, I'm on the second one and the arm bearings aren't set correctly on either of them. For a table in this price range and with many other quality features, this is simply not acceptable. The tonearm bearing has a slightly noticeable play, if you move it slightly you can even hear it slightly. Does it…

Just the basics, but everything is top-notch

When I'm trying to improve my vinyl experience, I usually have to buy a few extra bells and whistles to power my game. Not here. In fact, the AT-LP7 is functionally the simplest player I've ever owned. This is exactly the "upgrade" I was looking for - all that extra money spent on quality, not brilliance. Vinyl records are still the same as they were when they were introduced 7 decades ago - a flat, disc-shaped sheet of plastic with a slightly ribbed surface - period. While advances in…
