Review on Audio Technica AT LP7 Manual Belt Drive Turntable by Davon Man

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Loose arm bearings ruin an otherwise excellent table.

In general, they could succeed with this table. Looks great and feels good. A darkened table with everything you need to listen to music. Large delrin bowl. Stable and perfect speed. Unfortunately, I'm on the second one and the arm bearings aren't set correctly on either of them. For a table in this price range and with many other quality features, this is simply not acceptable. The tonearm bearing has a slightly noticeable play, if you move it slightly you can even hear it slightly. Does it affect performance? May be. I have an old Yamaha YP-D8 with a very good tonearm. Zero bearing play. Many other mid-range tables I've seen are unplayable (as they shouldn't be). I will unfortunately be sending this second one back and looking elsewhere. I really wanted to keep this table, but I will not fiddle with setting it up, paying for it to be set up, or sending it to a service. Pros are looks (fantastic), stable and accurate speed, Delrin cymbal. Super quiet running table. Overall build, fit and finish appear to be very good (except for the arm bearing issue). Therefore, every time you use the deck, you have to remove it completely and put it somewhere. I don't mind as it's better to completely remove the dust cover to play your recordings, but it would be nice if it was removable and flip-up. Built-in preamp. Some may love it or hate it. I don't think I mind. It can be selected and bypassed for MM or MC cartridges. I also use an external preamp but I tried the MM section of the built in and it sounded decent. Unconfirmed internet research says that even if the internal preamp is shunted, there may be a capacitor in the signal path and possibly other electronics, which would be unfortunate if true. I didn't open it to check the wiring or the board. Cons - Poorly installed bearings (breach of contract). The shift knob feels a little thin. last scam. I emailed Audio-Technica about the issue over a week ago and still have not received a response. So here's what. Finally, if they sorted out the bearing, this table would be amazing. It would also be nice if they had multiple versions for this. One without a cartridge for those who don't need/need the included AT wagon. And even a version without a tonearm or preamp. Table only, platter, motor with your choice of tonearm mounting platform. I would pay for it.
