Some Massachusetts locations require heat detectors to comply with state fire codes. When our apartment building needed new ones, we found that they were not a direct replacement for our older Firex models. Even the Firex didn't have a direct replacement, and while older Firex models have worked with BRK along the same lines, according to the Kidde/Firex website, the new ones won't. Good. It should be so. It was a simple process. to snap and replace the adapter. They work fine. They are inexpensive and easy to find online or at hardware stores. There's no reason not to love.
