We've had the PetSafe restraint for my cat for a few months now. At first the battery didn't seem to last more than 3-4 days and my cat got out of the fence. We then found that all we had to do was increase the shock level by one. After that, my cat quickly learned not to go near the fence. My battery lasted 4 months with daily use. For the night, remove the collar and turn off the battery. I also learned that there is a fine line between turning on and off. If the battery indicator does not blink at first, twist the cap a little further in either direction and check again. Sometimes you can go too far and turn it off or just not enough to turn it on. We bought extra batteries but now we are using the second battery. My cat only came out once and that was before we increased the shock level. I don't think he's trying to get close to the fence right now, so the battery is just on standby. We LOVE this fence and were also very happy with the batteries when we discovered the tricks. We only tried genuine PetSafe rechargeable batteries. At this rate, we may never need a replacement!
