The dog is safe in our yard!

I love this electric fence, we have used it for years to keep our dog in the garden. We bought this set for our new home and placed it all over the house so it can go out on the porch too.

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • Bad impression

Bad new flags in learning and behavioral tools

OK, I'll give the cable and connectors a 5 star rating. BUT I would give the flags zero stars. The flag was made of very fragile plastic. At least six flags were torn from the box. Another significant number broke after becoming stuck in the ground. In comparison, the old flags had wire rod and never broke.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Minor issues

so many problems it simply does not work!

None of this worked for us. There are inconsistent "cracks" in the fence that allow our pup to get out sometimes in random places but not others. Sometimes he gets out and then won't leave. There's a whole section that never works where it goes all the time. This is a 10 week old pup and sometimes when it's shocking he'll pretend he doesn't feel anything and we totally screwed him. My husband has played with this a lot and the problems keep changing.

  • Practicality

Yardmax mode so-so

Installation went smoothly. We laid about 1300 feet of wire, just under 2 acres. Be sure to follow all instructions regarding corner radius etc. However, YardMax mode often crashes on corners, allowing you to escape. It just wasn't consistent enough. The traditional mode is very consistent, but when the dog walks past the fence, it doesn't self-correct if it's more than 10 feet or so behind the wire. (That's why we wanted YardMax mode). Maybe it's because of our large garden size? The…

Enough to keep a 100 lb German Shepherd in the yard

Was really nervous (no pun intended) about buying it just because it was so much cheaper compared to the other electric fences listed here. But it does the job. My 100 lb German Shepherd is very territorial and stubborn and will run outside if he sees another dog running. So instead of waiting for an incident, I needed a quick fix to leave them in the yard while I work in the yard or take them out. It was so easy to set up and the instructions were very clear on how everything works. From the…

We've had the PetSafe restraint for my cat for a few months now. At first the battery didn't seem to last more than 3-4 days and my cat got out of the fence. We then found that all we had to do was increase the shock level by one. After that, my cat quickly learned not to go near the fence. My battery lasted 4 months with daily use. For the night, remove the collar and turn off the battery. I also learned that there is a fine line between turning on and off. If the battery indicator does not…

Shocking Surprise Best of Dogs

My 14 pound terrier mix has a mind of his own. No matter how hard we tried, she wouldn't stay in the yard, and we live outside of town in a gated community, and fences aren't sanctioned. We live by the river and there are a lot of deer here. Have fun for the little dog. Long story short, she realized that marking was the limit, but with the collar in the second take, it didn't hurt her to just push the limit. Set the collar back to position three, and after the last run across the border, she…

System inconsistencies

Dogs always wear collars and can sometimes walk right over the wire, so don't be so alarmed. I don't trust the system as much as I should and it's frustrating when we make sure the loop is up and they can still get through. But on the other hand, the wire runs near our garage and house, and that's where the collar receiver picks up a signal from the wiring around the house or something and sharpens it for no reason just sitting around the house. So I don't know what to think of this, but will…

Pros

Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other pickaxes

Works as it should.

Here is my situation. I have been using the petsafe WIRELESS Fence System on my 2 dogs (mini schnauzer and giant schnauzer) for almost 2 years and it has worked great for them. However, I began to realize that it would be better if I could control the more specific areas they were allowed to enter (this system just makes a circle). For example, they ruined my mulch in my flower bed and pooped right in the driveway where we park our cars (it's always nice when people come and have to dodge huge…
