When I was pregnant I researched SO many postpartum dressings and bandages. I chose this product because the reviews about it are the best in terms of value for money. Most negative reviews say it (and all binders) are uncomfortable. You are right, they are. If you can find a handy folder, it probably won't do much. While I didn't really enjoy sitting in this folder for long periods of time, it wasn't that bad. The only thing I didn't like is that there is a lot of velcro on this item because it has a two stage wrapping process. So I found that the most comfortable way to wear it was to put on a skinny tank top, put on a wrap and either put another skinny tank top over it, or what I did was put on a pregnancy support belt (you know, that thing (which you pull over your non-maternity pants to hide that they are open) otherwise the Velcro on the outside will scratch your baby. Now for the good. Did it work? I definitely think so. I gained 80 pounds during my pregnancy and lost 40 pounds in the first 2 weeks. I felt the brace reduced my uterus and made my stomach and hips smaller after wearing it for about 2-3 days. I will definitely use it for my next postpartum experience.
