Works better than I expected

I was skeptical based on some other reviews. Maybe they were for previous versions. The instructions are as comprehensive as the functionality of the product. I found them quite understandable in plain English. Maybe a bit of Chinese, but someone must have skimmed it and explained the instructions very clearly. The flow of instructions is actually well thought out. As other reviewers have pointed out, be too diligent to test this without reading the instructions. Although the camera seems intuitive, there is a lot of good instruction in the guide - use it! The images are very sharp and I recommend a resolution of 1080. The shutter speed is fixed at 30 fps. Even at night, the camera delivers fairly clear images in very low light (and without night vision). The IR illumination is really invisible to the human eye and quite decent. They allow the camera to see clearly up to about 10 feet. If you do, plan on keeping it plugged into a wall charger at all times, or if you want to use it as a body camera, plug it into a rechargeable power bank. In cold weather, using this camera as a body camera got me about 15 minutes of battery life. As with ALL other IR cameras, you cannot use the IR LED to see through windows at night. It's like standing in front of the bathroom mirror at night with the door closed and the lights off and then shining a super bright flashlight in the mirror and then trying to see your reflection - it never works. For this to work you need an IR light outside the window. I plan on mounting it on a helmet and shooting ski videos, but the limited shutter speed will likely produce boring videos compared to the high speed of an iPhone or a GoPro. If I fall and smash it, I only lose $50 - much better than $400. Oh, and it's a lot lighter than a GoPro. Just take a look. The magnetic mount is good and there are several options. The camera has a magnet on the back. If you wish to mount the camera to the ceiling or drywall, the kit includes a small metal (iron) disk that can be attached with Velcro or glued to a non-metallic surface. then the camera can be put on and easily removed from the plate. But the battery life is about 60-90 minutes, you still need power nearby. There are two WiFi modes 1.) WiFi direct to your phone, this is the mode you have when you receive it or after you press the reset button. This is ideal for using the device as a DVR in a car, hotel or in the field away from routers. You use this mode to connect your phone directly to the camera when you are in range. If you connect directly to the camera via a phone, you can switch the camera to Wi-Fi mode 2.), which means you register the camera on a local Wi-Fi network. This allows you to view and control the camera from anywhere in the world using your mobile phone (no laptop software required). In both modes, the camera uses power to operate the Wi-Fi network, which means the battery can only last up to 90 minutes. You have two options for recording and saving video: 1.) Directly to the phone's memory BUT the phone must be actively monitoring the camera (or connect via Wi-Fi mode 1 or 2). 2.) Directly to a microSD card. If you're planning on using this as a security camera, this can alert you to an intruder's movement, but if they spot the camera all they have to do is take it and you'll have no video (no cloud storage option, for example). Now when you enter the camera because you received an alert on your phone, you can start recording video on your phone. In this case you still have these security images on your phone when the camera is off. I have to say the motion detection is amazing - way better than my Arlo camera. It doesn't use passive IR, it detects background changes. At maximum sensitivity, it works when a neighbor's dog enters the field of view at a distance of 75-100 meters. It captures a person walking on the sidewalk at a distance of about 100 meters and cars moving down the street at a distance of about 150 meters. It has 7 levels of sensitivity and can also be turned off. You can also plan when you want it to be motion sensitive. Lots of security options including warning interval and recording duration. I am so impressed with this camera that I am planning to buy it for my son's dorm as they have been stolen a lot at school. The face of the camera is approximately the size of a silver dollar (US). It can be pretty easy to disguise/hide. I am planning to buy 1-2 more as they are affordable to monitor the back room of a complex aquarium system. I want to keep an eye on the liquid levels in several tanks as well as some gauges when away from the system on long trips.
