Doesn't work with old Drobo but seems to work with everything else

I bought this to work with my old Drobo DRO4D-D 16TB 4-Bay Array via USB 2 associate. USB Type-C/Thunderbolt port on the new Mac mini 2018. The cable didn't work for the mass storage device on Drobo because it didn't recognize it, so I went back to using a standard USB-B to USB 2.0 cable . This Fasgear cable worked great with my old Canon Lide 35 scanner as well as my old Gdrive G-Tech. That means there was something he didn't like about Drobo. I went to Fry's and bought their cheapest Type-C to USB-B cable and it seems to work with Drobo and Mac Mini so it's connected to the cable somehow. If it worked like any other USB cable I would give it 5 stars.
