Mits are the best in the line for a reason. These are smooth as butter. I've had them for a few years now and couldn't be happier. I chose this pair as a graduation present after completing my mechanical engineering degree. I use them fairly regularly in my current position. The measurements are correct and I have no problem with not being able to reproduce the data. As with any caliper, if you don't keep them clean you will run into calibration issues, but keep them clean and you'll have a smooth ride. They are much more accurate than the cheaper calipers that many of my fellow engineers have. I would definitely say that if you want a good caliper it is worth spending the extra money. Personally, I haven't encountered the need to check the coolant yet. My current position just doesn't require it so I can't speak specifically about this characteristic of these calipers but I believe they will be fine given their design. If I ever need another pair of calipers I will return to MIT without hesitation.
