I had a Biddeford duvet for about two years before it broke a few weeks ago. Having had this comforter for so long with no complaints I figured I'd buy another queen size one from the same company and I'd have no problem. How VERY wrong I was. At the moment I have had this blanket for two days and the problem started. First I tried to activate both controllers. Only one turned on at all and the other read the error code within a few seconds of turning it on. I followed the instructions in the booklet that came with the duvet (because the duvet is so new I haven't even decided if I want to keep a zip pocket to store it, so both pieces are there). It tells you to do the usual things, shut down; wait 15 seconds; deactivate; Make sure everything is properly attached; etc. After doing all that, I tried turning the controllers back on and still only one would turn on. Here the second and most important problem emerged. The only controller scrolling down from the top and reading the error code now gave off a small puff of smoke! I thought I was imagining it for a second because I didn't even think it was possible. I disconnected everything, put it back in my bag and threw it in the hallway! I decided to search the internet and see if anyone else had smoking issues and I found that Biddeford blankets are a known fire hazard and will just keep burning. Make ceilings without paying much attention to the problems. I don't know if I was lucky or very unlucky with my first blanket, but I don't think I'll ever buy a Biddeford blanket again. I loved my first blanket to death and a few weeks ago my review would have been very different. However, when there is a risk of fire, I draw the line, especially if I've had the product for less than a week. Luckily I didn't sleep, otherwise things could have been much worse.
