It is not only used as a desktop mini PC

I bought this little computer not to use it as a desktop but to experiment with different operating systems. For my purposes, I think it's a great little x86/amd64 single board computer (SBC). I've had plenty of time to test out the included Windows 10 operating system, as well as some of the more popular Linux distributions. It comes with Windows 10 partially configured with "Kingdel" as the PC name and "Kingdel" as the admin user. When you receive it, there are no passwords on it, so you can change the PC name as you like, as well as change the username and add a password if you like. If you want to use it as an experimental SBC, you need to do some minimal settings in Windows first and add backup software. I chose the free version of Macrium Reflect to create a disk image file. To keep your disk image small enough, it's best to create a disk image before adding a lot of software. I just added a few different browsers and Classic Shell (to get my favorite GUI) before creating the backup image. My image is just over 16 GB in size. You should set the target to a USB 3 portable hard drive and keep a copy in a safe place in case you decide to return the original operating system to the computer. I consider it a good SBC in a good case with a heatsink, not a desktop PC. Of course, there are other x86/amd64 SBCs to choose from, but they don't come with a nice aluminum case. Until you get a good case, power supply, RAM, and SSD, your costs will be about the same, if not more. Most SBCs don't have removable RAM and many don't have removable SSD, leaving you with between 2GB and 4GB of RAM. This little machine's memory and mSATA SSD can be swapped out or upgraded very easily as they are modular components that can be modified or upgraded by just about anyone. mSATA SSDs have gotten really cheap over the last few years, so at the time of this review you could upgrade from a 128GB mSATA to a 512GB mSATA for around $70. They also come in smaller capacities, with 32GB mSATA available for around $17. I bought several 32GB mSATA SSDs and two 512GB SSDs. I use the smaller ones to experiment with different operating systems. So far I've been running Ubuntu 18.4 MATE and Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon and both distros run very fast and smoothly on this hardware. There are even x86 ports for Android if you decide to try one of those. Most major Linux distributions should already have all the necessary drivers for this small PC. Conclusion: It's not fast enough to be a real workstation for my needs, but it's a fantastic computer to experiment with. If you only do light office work or surfing the web, this could really be your main job. It's also a great HTPC. Because the entire aluminum chassis is used as a passive heatsink, it can run at full throttle and still be relatively cool, and the lack of a fan means it's quiet. I am satisfied with this small PC for my needs and would buy it again without hesitation. Baseplate ideally positioned to mount a 2.5" SSD on the INSIDE of the baseplate. I know a standard 7mm thick drive will do, but there are thicker 2.5" HDDs and SSDs on the market. It is possible that an SSD thicker than 7mm will not fit inside. All I have to try is 7mm thick and I know they will fit the case with no issues. If you want it to boot from a 2.5" SSD, you will need to make BIOS changes to make the 2.5" SSD the first boot option. for movies when the PC is used as a multimedia PC. EDIT: I've purchased several mini PCs that are undoubtedly the same model and exact same components as this one. You can get them cheaper by ordering directly from China. They receive no service and they come with no operating system installed. I ordered another one from Kingdel for a friend. I finally have a lemon. It only booted into the BIOS and had no keyboard support in the BIOS. Luckily, Kingdel replaced it in just two days. You can rest assured that when you come from Kingdel you will receive excellent service. Any PC can arrive and not work, so the occasional lemon isn't that uncommon wherever you buy. Most importantly, Kingdel went insane very quickly.

  • Finally bought it
