I'm glad I bought this camera after several months of considering buying it. I don't need a bulky multi-lens DSLR, but I also wanted to be able to switch lenses on my next camera. Just got back from Paris and the Netherlands where the camera worked exceptionally well apart from one incident (more on that later). Compared to other compact SLRs and other NIKON, Canon and Olympus DSLRs I've used, the first improvement I noticed is the electronic viewfinder: the image is sharp and bright. Second is the weight and feel of the camera - not too big and not too light - just right - I could put the camera and lens in my coat pocket and didn't need a camera bag. Third, the dials and controls are conveniently located and easy to use. Image quality: I shot in different lighting conditions (sunny, cloudy, dawn, dusk, night without flash, etc.) - everything turned out better than I expected. I also used a UV filter to protect the lens. In general, I am very satisfied with the results. Problem: I've only had 1 problem with the camera since I bought it. When first used on the road, the autofocus was not locked onto the subject and the lens mechanism was constantly adjusting focus. Turning it off and on multiple times didn't solve the problem, nor did removing and reattaching the lens. The problem lasted 30 minutes. as long as I'm taking pictures. In the end, the autofocus problem disappeared after 30 minutes. and I haven't come across it since. Also, I strongly recommend using a lens protector or UV filter (I used a B+W 58mm XS-Pro Clear UV Haze with a multi-resistant nano-coating) and an LCD. Screen protector to protect the screen from scratches - I used ExpertShield which is available from AMZ for around $11. Overall: Very happy with the Fujifilm camera, despite one minor hiccup. I give one star because of the cost.
