Originally I thought I would cover the entire tree tightly with this. I quickly realized that it wasn't long enough and the effects don't look that great unless you wrap it around a tree or loop it back and forth and move it up or down. At first I was a bit disappointed with how sparsely placed the lights were, but after decorating the tree everything seemed to work. I can turn them on with normal light or separately. I connected the lights to the smart switch and it shows that they only draw about 7 watts of power at full brightness. The lights themselves are part of the cord and don't protrude outwards, making the cord difficult to hide, but placing them a few inches into the tree helps. I have a 6 foot tree and I was able to wrap light around it. There is no way to add another strand, so make sure the length is right for you before purchasing. The lighting can be controlled in two ways: with a remote control or with an app. The remote works well for switching between options and colors, but I prefer the app so you can see what mode you're in. When downloading the app it seems like you need to set up an account. However, if you look closely, you can skip signing up and just use light on your local network. You will miss some options in the application but for me I prefer to be local. Very happy with them and with low power consumption I just leave them on all the time.
