Review on High-performance Amateur Dual-Band Magnet Antenna - Tram 1185 by Brian Dildine

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great for cell phone and HT

I bought this for my new mobile ham radio which I set up as a base station and as I also bought adapters I decided to use it on my 5W -HT to try the Baofeng and is It works better than my other antennas. I tried it for the first time the day before this post and everyone said I was clean as a bell with only 5 watts. My new mobile ham radio which is currently my base station can handle up to 50 watts and with this antenna I have been able to set up simplex contacts as low as 10 watts and some even 5 watts. It easily handles the maximum transmission power of 50 watts. The base is good and the magnet is strong enough to stick and stick to the metal in my walls without moving or slipping. As mentioned in another post, make sure nothing is on the ride when fitting this to your car to avoid damaging the paintwork. Thought I'd see how well it performs on the road and even at 70mph without moving. The base is even compatible with other antennas of the same diameter. The cord length is good, you'll need an extension if you want to place it on the roof, but more than enough to place it right in front of a window or on top of a car. Very happy with this antenna so far. I'm planning to get the analyzer in the near future so I'll update if the readings show anything bad. Part of the antenna is very fond of wiggling, if you touch and release the antenna it will continue to wiggle for a while.

Pros
  • Handy thing
Cons
  • So far so good
