Tram 1185 Mag Mount

update review. This unit looked good out of the box, but after further testing at 70cm it was over 5 SWR and there was no way to adjust it. I tried it in several positions on the car, but without any joy. for reimbursement. Unfortunately no luck with refunds and this is a big piece of junk for me while Amazon does not honor their az return policy. definitely wouldn't buy these but bought another tram, no magnetic mount and it works fine buyers beware. no customer service or refund.

Pros
  • decent performance
Cons

Works well as advertised

Unit works well for us (put on a van temporarily). The only complaint, and not entirely their fault, is that the long (that's good), thin (can't blame them), weak coax doesn't naturally coil up for safe storage. We have to be very careful not to overstretch it. I'll stick the spiral wire antenna into a strong plastic bag while standing, and that's the best we can do. You probably want it placed on the roof of a house or car and forgotten, but we only install and remove it while in use.

Make sure all parts are secure before use

Great little antenna with minor repairs. I am new to ham radio and have used this antenna with my HT for best signal. I have mounted the antenna on a Weber gas grill as well as on a four (4) drawer metal filing cabinet with great results. The first intended use of the antenna, mobile, was a big disappointment. Noise and static rendered the antenna unusable. What I thought was a picket fence or flapping was actually a manufacturing defect. The static electricity stopped when the car stopped and…

Premium dual band UV antenna

Premium dual band UV antenna for mobile devices with magnetic attachment. It can be used as a portable car antenna or placed on a metal surface as a base antenna for those living in an apartment or multi-family home with adjustable exterior structural boundaries. The SWR ranges from 1.00 to 1.24 on most UHF and VHF operating bands. The table below shows the actual transmit power percentage and SWR versus frequency. Solid construction. Good magnetic mount.Antenna Frequency % Pure Power SWRTRAM…

Great for cell phone and HT

I bought this for my new mobile ham radio which I set up as a base station and as I also bought adapters I decided to use it on my 5W -HT to try the Baofeng and is It works better than my other antennas. I tried it for the first time the day before this post and everyone said I was clean as a bell with only 5 watts. My new mobile ham radio which is currently my base station can handle up to 50 watts and with this antenna I have been able to set up simplex contacts as low as 10 watts and some…

Ideal for magnetic mount. Catching repeaters very well even in hilly/mountainous terrain. *Update* July 30, 2016: I live in rural Utah in a fairly hilly/mountainous area. Using my Yaesu FT2900R mobile radio, I was able to successfully contact and speak to a repeater 37km away. Judging by the messages on the other end I could probably get a little further, it was just from my house. Very impressed with this magnetic mount, especially given the bad reviews I usually hear about it. *Also don't be…

The cable is not very long!

Installed this antenna yesterday. The magnetic mount is strong and I'm not worried about it falling off the car. You will need to attach the antenna to the base the first time you open the box (it just screws into the base by hand). It also included an Allen key, which was confusing because the antenna was already firmly secured in its mount, so I'm not exactly sure what the Allen key is for. I will say that this is my first magnetic antenna and I was very disappointed with the cable length. I…

Good SWR or 1.1 for 2 meters and 440 and hurricane proof base

DB growth is not very strong, but the price is excellent. If you want to win big, you have to pay for it. Installing a fixed antenna with the best gain will cost you money. When you make your own, you have the wind's vibration and waves on your car's antenna and roof. You'll probably want to spend more money for a dedicated cellular device with some punch. I have a clean roof for a good floor and live with HT for the radio. It comes with a 239 pin connector with 58A/U coaxial cable so the SWR…
