Certainly better than using a crowbar to disassemble the caliper!
Brakes are necessary for proper operation. After reminiscing how decades ago my ex messed up the brakes on his sports car by using a crowbar and brute force to force the caliper apart while changing pads, but it soon snapped back in like a vise and nearly caught the brake . The system caught fire once due to high friction, I decided I had too many brakes to risk that happening again. This tool is an effective yet inexpensive way to pull safely and with a controlled, smooth caliper pull that home mechanics should love.
