These candles are quite realistic for a candle without a moving flame. The flickering effect of the flame is very subtle and is somewhat similar to inexpensive electronic tea lights you can buy at the dollar store. That's not to say it detracts from realism, but it would be nice if the flickering were more noticeable. I agree with the previous reviewer that the remote control is very cheap. It worked for me about twice and then stopped working. Unfortunately, the timer can only be switched on via the remote control. Apparently these candles once had a three position switch at the bottom, but has that feature been removed? It would be great if the manufacturer did away with the remote control and just used a three position switch like most electronic candles do.
