Great overall in my review

Great rasp overall. I really like the carbide idea and the price point is awesome. My one complaint is that two spots of carbide were noticeably taller than all the rest resulting in two definitive scratches being left with every pass. The solution was to take a diamond sharpening stone and carefully grind those two grains of carbide down to be flush with the rest. Not a huge deal, but without this the tool is unusable for work.

Pros
  • perfect
Cons
  • Not recommended for use on high-gloss finishes

Excellent product for the money

Inexpensive. Easy to handle. Does great job on shaping wood and filing. Down dimensions. Love it.would definitely buy it again

Pros
  • Works exactly as advertised. I would purchase again if I needed another.
Cons
  • Tungsten carbide coating can wear off quickly with frequent use

Great rasp good for me

Perfect tool for what I needed to remove saw marks inside a fairly complex and tight bandsaw box. It works perfectly. I have Kutzall burrs also and they are great as well.

Pros
  • This tool works amazingly well. Very effective in removing material. Surpringly pleased.
Cons
  • Limited warranty may not offer sufficient coverage

Shreds wood quick for my opinion

I have the eight inch half round in coarse. Both sides have teeth, one side is flat, the teeth go all the way around including the edges, and It cuts in all directions unlike a traditional rasp that only cuts in one. Shredded through a natural fork slingshot like it was butter. Ruffed it out in about an hour. It was some kind of Pine wood so it was a soft wood. I have more forks to go though of like twenty Eucalyptus wood, a couple mystery forks, and this rasp is going to help me build…

Pros
  • Easy to Control: Their unique multi-directional cutting action is great for confined spaces. They quickly and easily cut with or against the grain with incredibly smooth cutting action on ALL sides of the rasp.
Cons
  • May not be suitable for use with a sawhorse or workbench

Fills with wood, can't be easily cleaned

I love the rotary bits. The burrs fill with debris but it keeps cutting and you can "clean" it with a blowtorch at the end, as recommended. The rasp is the same but there's a lot more to torch here. I would prefer a regular rasp that doesn't get packed so easily and is easier to clear.Plus, I'm would appreciate a better handle made from wood, not just a rubbery plastic sleeve slipped over the end of the bar.

Pros
  • This is awesome
Cons
  • Not suitable for shaping or working with synthetic materials

Very Excellent Product

Very, very excellent product! I have used it for a wide variety of wood-working projects, from making furniture to final planing/honing in bamboo fly rod building where you are working in tapers down to .005 inch. I use the coarse rasp for more aggressive work, and the fine-rasp for finish work.

Pros
  • A fantastic product. Not the fastest shipper.
Cons
  • Heavy weight may cause fatigue during prolonged use

great product best in my review

Ive tried allot of different brands and so far the 3 kutzall products I have bought have impressed me with their quality and durability. I would love it if the price would drop a bit but I understand you gotta pay for quality.

Pros
  • Leave a good finish, not sandable but good enough to take out scratches from my other rasp.
Cons
  • Blade may become dull or damaged if used on nails, screws, or other hardware

Effective, efficient, great quality, long life expected.

Superbly excellent tool produced a finished surface ready to sand. Minimum effort & time. Rapid stock removal. Showed tool to my 2 DIY neighbors, both very impressed & asked where I got it. Not a cheap date but you get what you pay for. This tool will be working long after my days are done.

Pros
  • The best rasp I have used in thirty years . It’s just incredible .
Cons
  • May not be suitable for precise shaping and detailing

Indispensible Precision Wood-working Tool

I was reluctant to buy this rasping file because it was so expensive. And I was rightly concerned that the abrasive coating would be fragile—it is. In using the tool to precision shape walnut wood, I do sometimes lose coating, which will shorting the file’s lifespan. However, when it comes to precision-shaping wood so that it exactly fits an adjacent abutting surface, this is the tool to have. These days a lot of " professionals " do sloppy cuts and fill the gaps with caulking or cover with…

Pros
  • Its really sharp and its cutting material is very durable.
Cons
  • Limited range of motion due to long blade length

Great for wood turners

I use the fine rasp to remove tool marks left on my spindle turnings, then hit the turnings with some light sanding. Good quality tool.

Pros
  • Love using this rasp to do fine tuning and shaping.
Cons
  • Coarse grit may leave rough finish on softer woods

High Quality on my review.

The Kutzall rasp is awesome. I purchased the fine to use on wood projects. It exceeded my expectations. Smooth filing, works wonderfully. I plan on buying other Kutzall products.

Pros
  • It work ok
Cons
  • Coating may wear off unevenly, affecting the tool's performance

Well made. As advertised.

Got this for stripping wood filler off my deck. Works very well. Seems to be a well made tool. Feels substantial in the hand.

Pros
  • teeth design is such that it cuts super fast, but still leaves a good profile
Cons
  • Coating may be prone to rusting or corrosion

Really useful tool for wood

I didn’t expect to love these as much as I do. I find that I use this where I might have grappled a piece of sand paper or perhaps a hand plane. One application I didn’t consider until I had it was inside corners on shoe mold. The rounded rasp fits it like a glove and removes material quickly and precisely. The half round is flat on the back so if you have tried using these before the half rounds may be a good place to start so you get the round on the front and the flat on the back. Also of…

Pros
  • An awesome rasp. Removes material aggressively. Does not leave regular marks.
Cons
  • May require additional sanding or smoothing after use

Not *super* aggressive on wood, but works well!

This is a significant upgrade if you're going from a cheap multi-purpose file set, and it indeed does cut through pretty much everything. But if you're really into (or getting into) woodworking, I recommend getting a more aggressive (on wood) half-round rasp, such as what can be found in the Narex professional set. The Kutzall rasp will remove quite a bit of material, but it doesn't remove as much as a more traditional rasp (if good quality), and the Kutzall shavings are basically dust instead…

Pros
  • I love this rasp and have already ordered another one
Cons
  • May not be suitable for delicate materials such as balsa wood
