These are the comfortable sock shoes you've come to expect from Vibram, although they lack some of the details that would really make them a fantastic shoe. I wear these shoes mainly to walk my dog in the mountains in winter. Pros: Pretty much what you would expect from Five Fingers in terms of comfort. The insulation works great. I've worn them barefoot on ice and snow and in temperatures up to 29 degrees. Q. When your foot is heavily immersed in ice/snow, it gets cold around the toes, especially when the slush gets between the toes. They appear to be reasonably water repellent (in other reviews the shoes have been treated with a water repellent wax to improve water resistance). I imagine if you were running they would be warm enough even in colder temperatures. Outsole grip is fantastic. He's really sticky. It works just as well on ice and slippery surfaces without spikes or spikes. I suspect that like winter tires, this leads to higher wear at higher temperatures. The Bad: Well, it's really just a few things that are annoying and a bit disappointing. Vibram has removed the heel tab to make the shoe easier to put on. Surprisingly, it is very important. This makes it difficult to put on shoes because the heel always sinks in. I was only expecting them with Five Fingers and the lack of something so simple and useful is very disappointing. The laces were a poor choice. I'm not saying that because they don't fit well, but because they're just plain lame when trying to redefine what a shoe is. First, I hate tying/untying thick, sloppy, wet shoelaces, and with low-cut winter boots, you get that. Second, why did you suddenly decide shoelaces are good? The locking mechanism on my other FFs is great, and the cable is thin and strong enough that water isn't a factor. Size: I quite agree with the general advice to order 2 sizes up. I'm usually a little loose in a size 46 and don't wear socks, so I ordered a size 47. If my feet are swollen, size 47 is perfect. So if your normal size fits you, you'll probably appreciate the extra room if you order 2 sizes up, and the ability to add socks for cold-weather shoes makes a lot of sense. Toe padding is also slightly thicker than usual to provide insulation.
