ball head arrived today so all these comments are based on first impressions: 1) The product looks solid and has a good fit and finish. 2) The fit of the base thread 3/8 inch has been increased. The base of the tripod head is flat and tightens very securely. 3) Pan rotation becomes tighter as tension on the ball increases. It still spins, but not smoothly. 4) Ease of use and setting are very easy. 5) This will be updated as soon as I get the 105mm macro lens out on the D800. The smallest vibration is noticeable. Update: I use this tripod weekly for projects. Panning is sticky and jerky in cold weather, but that's a minor issue. I recommended blue Loctite for the tripod base threads. It's waterproof enough to withstand overnight rain. I have not used this tripod head with any of my heavy cameras and lenses.
