Review on πŸ”₯ Primula Avalon Whistling Stovetop Tea Kettle - Fast Boiling, Cool Touch Handle, 2.5 Quart, Black by Mark Jefferson

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Unsuitable for the intended use.

My girlfriend bought this for me as a Christmas present in 2014 as I've been drinking a lot more tea lately and she wanted me to have a nice teapot for myself. Most of my cookware is triple coated stainless steel used on an induction cooktop so I made sure to choose a stainless steel kettle. I was initially satisfied with both its aesthetics and its performance, since I used it 2 to 4 times a week, draining water after each use. I just checked the description of this product before writing this review to confirm that it is (supposedly) made of stainless steel. (and yes, it says so in the Revain description) because by late summer 2015 the kettle had developed a significant patch of rust, about 1" to 1 1/2" in diameter, on the inside, which perforated the sidewall and rendered the kettle unusable made . Having dealt with various grades of stainless steel in the chemical industry for most of my life - mostly ASTM A-304 and 316 grades - I know it takes some pretty nasty materials to damage quality stainless steel in this amount and relative short time.. Given that this kettle has only (and not even daily) exposure to boiling tap water - the use for which it is supposedly intended and marketed - I can only assume that its material of construction is NOT high quality stainless steel and is NOT suitable. for the intended use. Based on this, I would not recommend purchasing this product. Primula Avalon whistle kettle, 2.5 liters, brushed stainless steel
