I used this thermometer to grill meat to perfection. It immediately shows the temperature inside the meat, so there is no doubt about the readiness of the meat. There's also a bonus magnet on the back so you can leave it on the grill frame to check the temperature a few times. Just turns on after the probe is pulled out, like a jackknife blade, and turns on instantly. If you need to calibrate it, it looks easy enough with a switch in the battery compartment and ice water. I am very happy with this purchase and I hope to get a lot of use out of it.
