This stuff really works

I used it to solder an aluminum angle frame. After that I tested the joints manually under load, a bit skeptical that it would hold up. I no longer doubt This process is very similar to fitting a copper pipe and is therefore very simple, and the resulting connection appears to be very strong. The Bernzomatic TS-8000 with MAPP gas heats up the joint in less than a minute and I used 1.5" x 1.5". Aluminum corner x .125 inch. I bet you could do it with propane, although you'll have to wait a few extra minutes for each connection. If you're doing a small project then that's probably fine, but if you're going much further or using thicker metals I'd probably upgrade. There's a pretty decent gap between hot enough to melt solder and hot enough to melt aluminum. So unless you're careless, this shouldn't be a problem. Decent amount for the money here. Consumer aluminum soldering rods cost about $2 each. It's about half the price and I prefer them over Burnzomatic.

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • Not fancy
