Don't be careful.

I don't know how people can say that this is a good product unless they want to fix a hole in a coke can. I've been a welder for over 40 years and thought I'd give it a try. The weld looked good, but as soon as I applied force to it, it broke. For this reason I cannot trust this product. Rods can fix a hole or hold metals together like glue, but to me, where welding needs to be strong and reliable, it's just useless. I am very disappointed in this product.

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • A few small things

I hope you have better luck than me.

I watched a few videos on this and thought it would be ideal for repairing my bike's crankcase where the drain plug had come loose. For practice I bought some aluminum bars from HF and some MAP gas from Lowe's. This material isn't nearly as easy to use as the guys at YouTube make it out to be. It's a fine line between warmth and voodoo magic to get decent results. It was difficult to hold onto the crankcase and I worried about damaging other parts in what was actually a simple process.

Pros
  • Stable test results
Cons
  • Slightly cracked

Works great with soldering sticks

If you know how to solder, you can use them. Keep in mind that unlike soldering, they don't use capillary action to fill small areas between tubes. You almost have to weld the parts together by literally rubbing the rod on the hot parts. If you don't feel the rod physically rubbing against the part, the solder may not be sticking and you will undercut while soldering. Before soldering, make sure the parts are clean and hot enough. I used sandpaper to clean the areas before soldering. I also…

This stuff really works

I used it to solder an aluminum angle frame. After that I tested the joints manually under load, a bit skeptical that it would hold up. I no longer doubt This process is very similar to fitting a copper pipe and is therefore very simple, and the resulting connection appears to be very strong. The Bernzomatic TS-8000 with MAPP gas heats up the joint in less than a minute and I used 1.5" x 1.5". Aluminum corner x .125 inch. I bet you could do it with propane, although you'll have to wait a few…

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • Not fancy

Yes, there is a difference! Good product!

Works great with a small Lenox propane torch. I also bought another brand and tried them side by side. The other brand was complete crap and I swear it was just aluminum wire from China with a melting point probably over 1000 degrees. These Blue Domon brand sticks, on the other hand, melted and bonded together well, and I didn't even prep the area for my test. A video was posted that was basically warning users about another brand that I had purchased but also showed that brand so the video…

Pros
  • Sturdy construction

  • Some issues

Difficult to use but works very well once you get the hang of it

I used these Zinc Aluminum Solder Rods when I needed to make my own fascia around a skylight. I electroplated regularly and these soldering sticks worked. They braze both aluminum and zinc. But the aluminum pad is too thin and melts too easily. Galvanized content works well. Here are some tips: Flux is not needed, but if the surface is dull or dirty, clean it with a STAINLESS STEEL wire brush. Ordinary wire brushes will not work. Prepare each surface by "tinning" which means melting a thin…

Pros
  • One pole, 3 attachments. Easy to use with just a propane torch.
Cons
  • unreliable

The only true. for soldering sticks

After reading a lot of bad reviews I was skeptical but decided I'd give it a try for $20. It works out. When using gas, you must tin the surfaces first, otherwise it will not work. End of the story. It's not the same as sweating with solder on a copper pipe. It will flow like solder, but if you haven't tinned it first it won't stick. Remember folks, soldering is NOT welding. It took a bit of fiddling to figure it out. I used half the wand just to learn the technique but once my slow brain…

Pros
  • About 22 sticks per tube

  • Long delivery time

Have never soldered anything, but.SUCCESS!

I have a Dodge Ram pickup truck with an 8.0 liter V-10 engine. When replacing the thermostat, a small metal ring was turned upside down, causing the thermostat housing to break very badly, almost in the middle. After not being able to find a replacement part, I decided to try this product. I ground down the V-shaped section of the crack to create a surface for the solder to adhere to. Because the body is made of very heavy die-cast aluminum, a propane or MAPP torch will not suffice in an…

Pros
  • Stronger than aluminum, tougher than mild steel, excellent corrosion resistance
Cons
  • Easily torn
