The only true. for soldering sticks

After reading a lot of bad reviews I was skeptical but decided I'd give it a try for $20. It works out. When using gas, you must tin the surfaces first, otherwise it will not work. End of the story. It's not the same as sweating with solder on a copper pipe. It will flow like solder, but if you haven't tinned it first it won't stick. Remember folks, soldering is NOT welding. It took a bit of fiddling to figure it out. I used half the wand just to learn the technique but once my slow brain kicked in it was easy. If I can do it, almost anyone can. I'm just not smart enough to know that I'm not the sharpest lightbulb in the pencil case. In any case, I was impressed with the results of my first experiment, attaching an aluminum sign pole to a scrap 1/8 inch pole. with a cheap 30 year old Burnzomatic propane torch. After it cooled, I put it in a vise and began the torture. Welding didn't break down; aluminum made. It was also a very nice puddle. Appearance matters! After the first experiment, I successfully attached an aluminum bar to a galvanized fence post. Then an old cold-forged aluminum bike turned a random two-stroke cylinder head. This stuff is cheap, works great, and since you're using low temperatures, you're unlikely to destroy the project if you mess it up. Have fun! Wow! While I've had good results with propane, it took time. Mapp Gas will make your life easier.
