Doesn't clog instantly like other ultrafine filter pads but collects green water (as other reviews state). It is easily clogged with green water. I have a pre-filter, the only thing that can clog the next filter is either bacteria lasting days to weeks or GREEN WATER algae (which cannot be filtered out). I've never seen dental floss or green water removal sponge. Algae are also filtered below 15 microns. I have used UV clarifiers and flocculants but the algae in my tank was growing faster than it could be killed or filtered out as clumps. So for this unpopular type of filter it's just incredible. I noticed that my tank was 50% cleaner after just a few hours. Update: It turns out that part of the filter layer is actually cotton, and if it's clogged you can't clean the side that's stuck to the yellow foam. In fact, after super clogging, it becomes unwashable. And I found that my chemical water purifier helps capture green algae, not the filter itself. I need a filter media that can be easily cleaned or reused instead of being thrown away during the day. So I'm downgrading from 5 stars to 3 stars.
