So I wanted to clarify what a lot of people are asking and no one seems to either get the question or get the wrong answer. Firstly, this LED light is amazing. Its intensity can be turned up and down, there are customizable modes if your mood for your tank is thunderstorms or overcast, and it has a sleek design overall. I think anyone who wants to brighten their lights should go for this model, and here's why: This model has a dual ramp timer that lets you dim from dawn to dusk and *and* to moonlight be able. If you had bought its counterpart, the USA Satellite Plus, this model could not use a dual ramp timer, only a single ramp timer. (I don't know why.) With that in mind, some people like me would like the light to automatically turn off at certain times, or pause between the 8 hour diurnal cycle when the light is on, for a plant for example. Here's the good part that people are confused about: In conjunction with a digital timer, I use https://www.amazon.com/Century-Programmable-Timer-Countdown-Function/dp/B00MVCYP3I/ref=sr_1_3?s =hi&ie. =UTF8&qid=1473138999&sr=1-3&keywords=digital+timer+center You can turn it off and save the double ramp to actual light timer to remember the actual time. So if there was a power cut, for example, it saves the desired switch-on and switch-off times, making it even more fun in combination with a digital timer. I will give my schedule for better understanding. Bare with my sleep schedule. I have set a digital timer that turns on at 12:55. When it turns on the light, the light will turn on with the moonlight setting. In the dual ramp timer that comes with this light, I've set it to start the ramp from moonlight to daylight at 1pm. Then I set the digital timer to turn off at 5pm for a siesta. (Pause; I have a window in the room with light at this time so my fish doesn't experience total darkness). Then I turn the digital timer back on at 6:00 p.m., where it continues to run at the same intensity. I installed it. (approx. 50% white light) At 22:00 when the double ramp timer begins to smoothly transition from daylight to moonlight. I then leave this moonlight on until 12:00 when the digital timer turns the light off, completing the daily cycle. Without a digital timer, this light really stays on 24/7. You can either reduce it to moonlight and stay that way all night until it returns to daylight during the day, or you can switch to total darkness and then from darkness to daylight. With the added digital timer you can turn this light off completely, and in doing so its dual ramp timer will remember the settings you input so everything ends up working perfectly. My fish like the ramp, they are no longer stressed. with a sudden bright light when it first turns on to wake them up (I have dwarf cat measles that gets seriously mad about it) and I'm finally able to enjoy the setup I've dreamed of and I've read countless threads and posts have browsed. Hours and hours until I finally figured it out through my own testing.
