Works well if you keep the receiver and TV on all the time.

I bought this pair so that I can mount cable TV on the outhouse (above the entrance). The transmitter is in the window of my main house and 30 feet away is my shop window. The transmitter is on the windowsill of the house and is connected to one of the cable sockets via HDMI. The end of the IR remote transmit/receive cable is approximately 6 inches from the front of the cable box. The receiver is approximately 7 feet from the magazine but is in direct line with the transmitter. Almost ideal conditions. The first day it was difficult to sync the devices. They eventually synced up, and the picture and remote control functions worked perfectly. After a few days of frustrating use, I realized that when the receiver goes into standby mode, you'll probably have to unplug it again to sync it with the transmitter. As a reminder, when you turn off the TV, the receiver goes into standby mode (red light). The next time you turn on the TV, the receiver will most likely not sync (blinking white light - wait a few hours if you want, but it won't sync). When you unplug/plug the receiver, it usually syncs right away. This might explain the problem I had syncing the first day. The documentation is pretty minimal. The receiver appears to have an omnidirectional antenna so you can point the front of the receiver at where you will be using the wired remote.
