Not bad with some extra insurance. as previous users have said, leaving them in place is not a good idea. In my case, the spring washer that forms the hole in the lid actually hits the bar on both sides, so it helps in that aspect, but it's not a perfect seal. I think that's the case for most. I suspect they are actually meant to have insulation over them once the installation is complete. In my setup, the cover had insulation surrounding the sides, then I added another piece of insulation to the back of the speakers/covers to (a) cover them and (b) muffle the sound in the attic.
