"Fleece Dog" Nobuko Nagakubo (Sinco) presents a tutorial on how to make twenty adorable felted dogs, featuring 16 irresistible creatures compared to small felted animals created with a simple needle. The felting technique has proven to be the clear winner. Why? The animals in "Fleece Dog" have character and soul. Every Sinco creation is a small work of art that demands irresistible attention. Anyone who has ever had a pet will appreciate the personality that shows in their face and eyes and only hope that as crafters they have the skills to craft it with the same skill. My expectations were pretty high. After watching Man Shops Globe: Scotland on Sundance, where Anthropologie client Keith Johnson encounters handyman Domenica Moore Gordon's felt dogs and can't overcome their petite personalities, I hoped ordering Little Felt Animals would give me an idea would charismatic appeal that so fascinated Johnson despite the diminutive size of each finished creature. I was wrong. Instead, I researched further and ordered one of Ms. Moore Gordon's dog sets to discover the secret for myself. Along with this strategy, I ordered this book, which gives me ample opportunity since Ms. Gordon's kit contains instructions and materials for only one specific breed of dog. I figured Cinco's book would give me color combinations, body shape suggestions, and lots of insider tips so I could switch breeds once I'm done making the dog from The Two Pooches. I'm not disappointed. The book itself is well structured. The photos are beautiful and most of the animals have that extra bit of style that makes Gordon's dogs so memorable. In the first part of his book, Cinko shows each of his twenty dogs on a one or two-page spread. Full color photos generously show each little creature from multiple angles. The following section includes general felt dog making instructions with step-by-step photos, color choices, and appropriate tools and their uses. In the third part of the book, specific instructions are given for each of the twenty dogs she created, with diagrams of each of those dogs from different angles. These dogs include: Labrador Retriever, Miniature Dachshund, Shiba Inu, French Bulldog, Wire Fox Terrier, Siberian Husky, Chihuahua, Miniature Schnauzer, Spitz, Papillon, Dalmatian, Catalan Shepherd, Bernese Mountain Dog, Scottish Terrier, West Highland White Terrier, Afghan Hound. Hound, Miniature Poodle, Shetland Sheepdog, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Small Basset Vendean Griffon. The last three dogs on this list are made of fleece and dog hair, which may or may not put some people off. Sinco also shows the master how to make a wire frame that can be used for each of the dogs. This allows you to pose very well for the finished product. Result? I wasn't disappointed with the adorable dogs Cinko created in her book Fleece Dogs. Anyone who loves the idea of creating a small work of art that has both soul and personality will love this book with photo examples and detailed, well-illustrated instructions. Dogs are fun and easy to make and are sure to be a hit for a gift. Recommended. Diana Fayas von Behren "reneofc"
