A great way to cool your fermenter without an expensive fridge.

I primarily use two fermenters from SS Brewing Technologies, their Brewmaster Bucket model. With a "canister" style airlock, I can easily fit one of those fermenters into this cooling jacket. The temperature inside the fermenter is about 10 degrees lower than the ambient temperature in the room. Using two jars of frozen gallons (about as many as you can find in this particular fermenter) I brought it down to about 15 degrees below ambient. Of course, your situation may vary depending on where you use it. I've used it in the basement where the temperature typically stays between 63-68F year-round. When I paired this with a Cool Zone cooling jacket that pumps ice cold water through the fermentor, I was able to get some pretty dramatic temperature drops. Using a conventional beverage cooler and changing jugs of frozen water daily, keeping a 7-gallon Brewmaster pail at 40F for as long as needed was no problem. With more regular pitcher changes (about every 12 hours I'm guessing) you could probably drop the temp to 36F for cold emergencies. On the other hand, it's a large jacket with plenty of room for ice buckets. It's big enough (but ONLY big enough) for a 7-gallon brew bucket with a canister-style airlock on top. An inch or two higher and you'll likely force open the airlock or be unable to close your cooling jacket. It feels solid and well made and is easy to clean. My biggest complaint, and somewhat minor overall, is that the soft, pliable nature of the jacket is such that it tends to pucker. on the ground. This can make it difficult to install and remove the fermenter if you don't have help. It's definitely doable, you just have to be careful with it. All in all this was a good purchase and I will definitely buy a second one when I add another Cool Zone cooler to my setup. One of the attached photos shows my fermenter. in the jacket. Another shows the jacket as part of my temperature control system.
