I have purchased an Ampeak 2000W inverter and remote control. This inverter had a design issue that forced me to return it as I felt it would not be safe to leave it installed in my RV as standard wiring rules were not followed on all three terminals. Detailed explanation below and in the video. In my case I was trying to hook it up to my RV so I could just flip a switch and put the inverter on two different circuits. One was for extra sockets so I could use the coffee maker with it. The other chain was for the microwave. The inverter seemed to work fine when I tested it on the workbench so I installed it in the camper and wired the 3 position switches so I could switch between shore power and the inverter. The first circuit ran fine and everything worked, but when I installed the second circuit I got an OOP indication for an overload condition. Thinking I connected something wrong, went through all my wiring and everything seemed fine until I connected both circuits to the inverter and shorted it hot and neutral. Further investigation revealed that the hot and neutral parts of the two connectors on the inverter were reversed from the normal arrangement. Well, that's something most people wouldn't notice if they had separate devices connected. In my case, when passing through the breaker panel, it connects the neutral and the hot wire since all the neutrals in the panel are tied together. As a retired electrical engineer I figured I could just remove the front panel and swap the pins on the connectors, but I found that the connectors were soldered into the PCB so they couldn't be swapped out, which also leads me to believe that If so, they are all connected in a way that could pose a security risk or cause a crash, as I've experienced. I also contacted the support team and the phone number provided on the website didn't work. I received an email response and while there were many nice things to say about how they were there to help, they wanted a video showing how the inverter works and doesn't work to share with their technical staff to share. I sent this to them along with an explanation of what was wrong. Their "technical staff" still couldn't figure it out, so they asked for an additional video showing something else. At that point I abandoned their tactic of waiting for meaningless videos and decided to return the inverter. While I could get this inverter to work by adapting my wiring to their wrong layout, I don't want the electronics in my RV if there's such a glaring flaw in the design and the techs can't figure out what's wrong, right? Catch it as you do so. the first place. Your last email said to return the product but nothing about a replacement so I will be ordering a different brand inverter. I read a lot of reviews but very rarely write. This time around, I feel the need to warn people about design flaws, or at least give others a reason why they're seeing the same problem as me. If you watch the video it will fully explain what the problem is.
