I don't know what I think was in the box. When I opened it, the package was folded. I looked for poles or whatever I needed to use to hold the ladder up. I thought it was incomplete. As I ripped open the package, it began to expand more and more into a ladder shape, so I didn't need anything else. These stairs are nice and low but still high enough. My dog has difficulty climbing, so help her a little. I would have given 5 stars but when I put on the case that came with the kit, the zipper that closes it popped out. I needed to use this ladder right away so I decided to just leave it as is rather than return it. I would definitely recommend this ladder for dogs that have difficulty climbing. Just be very careful when trying to zip up. It is located at the bottom so that it is not visible that the zipper is not closed.
