I have bought two of these inexpensive protein skimmers over the last few years. I clean it out every other day and make sure it's properly secured in my 55 gallon tank. The slightest adjustment and my Fluval360 canister spits and whirls around, blowing air bubbles into the tank. The fish are going crazy. It gets the job done with daily monitoring. PROBLEM: The inner piston works on a simple threaded screw, plastic against plastic. Even a slight twisting of the shaft up or down will eventually lock the tip of the screw firmly into the body like pliers. Good luck trying to free this temperamental piece of plastic. I have boiled it, reheated it in the microwave and frozen it in the freezer overnight. I was given it once as a gift for a brief hallelujah, only to drown it out again with mockery. For $8 you get a fix, but it's not for a traveler or weekend getaway who's been away for a few days. You can return to the protein-covered tank and try the filter machine to keep up. I am looking for.
