These tea strainers are attractive. They are too big for a cup of coffee or tea. They are perfect for a 12-16 oz tall mug. I use one every day. If your tea is very hard, small particles will float. (Same thing happened with my other, more conventional tea strainers). However, I believe tea infusers in general were probably designed for connoisseurs of whole-leaf tea (rather than cheap designer blends that look like they've been through a coffee grinder). I can live with particles until I finish my "cheap" tea. I had no idea how to clean, but I came up with a system that at least seems to work. I hold the colander open and shake it out on one side and then the other side. I wash off any remaining solids. Then I put the strainer in the closed position in the dishwasher. These filters are very durable. I would buy again if needed.
