I like digital measurements but don't like being dependent on batteries. My eyes aren't what they used to be, so it's nice to be able to avoid the vernier as much as possible (the last digit still depends on the vernier). Since you're mechanical and not computerized, you lose the inch to meter conversion, but I have a cheaper electronic one when I need to do it, which is pretty rare. In addition to the reading method, it has an amazing feeling of operation - smooth action and reliable repeatability. I suspect the equivalent Mitutoyo electronic model would work just as well, but personally I prefer the mechanical one.
