Review on πŸ”§ Amana Finger Joint Router 55392 by Christopher Wiggins

Frustrating setup, then bad results

If you enjoy spending a lot of time setting up and then wasting a lot of wood on trial cuts that produce poor results, buy this tool. Build quality is excellent so I expected great results. The instructions are vague and in some cases even wrong. For example, the instructions told me to use gaskets that don't come with the tool and aren't even available. After spending about 3 hours trying to properly center the bit on some test pieces, I gave up. I used oak and the router left a lot of fibrous material in the joint. He often burned wood, regardless of feed and speed. This creates a tight connection, but I found it impossible to get the top and bottom of the boards together. They were always about 1/32 to 1/16". No matter what I did, I couldn't get any better. I even tried skipping a board, then cutting it in half and putting the halves together. That should have given one supposed to be a perfect fit as the fingers were cut all at once from the same board the results were still poor waste of money that will sit in a desk drawer for the rest of my life never to be used again.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Some mistakes
