Review on Voltage Generator Inverter Igniter Disassembled by Robert Grind

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Noisy but produces an arc

Although the description says something of an anion generator it is AC (also in the description but I missed it) and does not produce any useful electrostatic effects. It is not suitable for creating a static weed/flock applicator. It produces an arc of almost 1cm that could be good for an igniter, plasma surface treatment of plastics (to improve adhesion) or maybe a tiny Jacob's ladder. Tips: 1. Gently pull the ends of the enameled wires through the sandpaper to remove the insulation.2. Use a power supply that is definitely between 3.7V and 4.2V. Any higher can fry the transistor. The coil wires are not marked but the coil connection diagram in the product images will help. If that doesn't work, try swapping one or both pairs.4. If arcing occurs between the coil and the transistor heatsink, wrap the coil with electrical tape.5. Use good insulators when assembling. I found that wood is not a good insulator for 15kV.6. Do not touch the 15kV plasma arc. A small portion seeped through my stupid wooden base and bent into my hand. It felt like an ant sting and burned tiny black dots on my epidermis.7. If that sounds like a giant mosquito, it works.

Pros
  • Tools and household goods
Cons
  • Everything is fine
